Manual Addenda
____________________________________________________________

The following are changes or clarifications to the game
manual that were overlooked or could not be made before
our printing deadline:

Generic Addenda

Center on Character
The interface option Center on Character is modal. If
you turn it on, your character will remain in the center
of the game screen at all times. If you leave it off
(default), you are free to scroll the screen in any
direction by moving the cursor to the sides of the screen
or using the directional arrows on your keyboard.

Character Attributes (Profile)
The following abbreviations are used on this screen (see
p. 68 for additional information):
AC = Armor Class
AP = Action Points
HP = Hit Points
HR = Healing Rate.
MR = Mana Recharge. How quickly you recover Mana.

Also on this page is a graph with different damage types
down the left side. Moving across each row, this graph
displays:
Sword = your percentage to inflict this type of damage.
100 indicates you have neither a bonus nor a penalty.
Shield with Cross = your Damage Resistance or chance
to withstand this type of damage. Zero indicates no
special resistance.
Shield with Bolt = your Damage Threshold or the amount
of this type of damage you can shrug off without
taking HP damage. Zero indicates no Damage Threshold
for this damage type.

Damage Threshold (DT)
This statistic is never properly explained in the manual.
Damage Threshold (DT) is a number by which the the damage
from any attack is reduced. That is, if your character
has a 2 Fire DT, every Fire Damage attack against you
will do 2 less points of damage.

Damage Resistances (DR)
In Lionheart, Damage Resistance indicates the percentage
amount of damage that is not taken during an attack.
Resistances above 100 heal the player for minute amounts.
Acid, Crushing, Slashing and Piercing Resistances are
capped at 75%. All other Resistances are capped at 125%.

Full-Screen
Press F2 at any time to remove the Main Interface. A
Health and Mana counter and icons for Sneak, Search, and
your currently selected spell will be displayed.

Skill Points and Perks
If you recieve a Perk which adds points to a skill, the
skill will be increased as if you had actually spent those
points on the skill. That is, if you have a high skill
which costs multiple skill points to increase a single point,
the perk will only increase that skill as much as it would
have been increased if you had leveled up and spent those
skill points yourself.

Preventing Motion
To make sure that the character will stand still while
attacking, hold the <Shift> key down while clicking on a
target. This will prevent the player from walking to the
spot in case the first click "misses" the intended target.

Archery Characters
It may be possible in some situations to fire even when the
red "X" is apparent. If there is a barrier between the
character and the target, and the barrier seems like it
would not prevent the shot (i.e. a stream), then it may be
possible to hit the target even when the red "X" is showing.

Specific Addenda

New Perk:
Master of Arms: You know just where to aim your weapon to
cause the most pain. With this Perk, all crushing and
slashing damage inflicted will do 25% more than normal
due to your great skill. Requirements: Level 27,
Strength 7 or better and One or Two-Handed skill of 200.
Unarmed Skill has to be less than 100.

Modified Perks: (Note: Perks that give Attribute bonuses will
not be able to be selected by players that have an Attribute
value of 10 or more.)

Adrenaline Rush: At the first threshold, this Perk gives
the player +1 AG and +20 Evasion. At the next threshold,
this Perk gives the player an additional +1 AG, +10 Evasion
and +1 Melee Damage.

Bonus Hand to Hand: Only gives +1 point each rank instead
of +2.

Bonus Ranged Damage: 1 level instead of 2.

Damage Resistance: 2 Levels instead of 3. Damage
resistance increase is only 8% instead of 10%. Cannot
also have Hide of Scars Perk or Tough Hide Perk.

Deadly Accuracy: 15 points added to Ranged instead
of 20.

Eloquence: Adds 15 to Diplomacy and not Speech.

Hide of Scars: No Charisma decrease. All resistances
except fire increased by 6 and not 15. Requirements:
Charisma minimum removed. Cannot also have Damage
Resistance Perk or Tough Hide Perk.

Master Trader: Adds 15 to Diplomacy and gives a 15%
discount from merchants.

Salesman: Adds 10 to Diplomacy and gives a 10% discount
from merchants.

Slayer: Requirements: Level 33 and minimum 200 unarmed
skill required. All other requirements are the same.

Sniper: Requirements: Level 33 and minimum 200 ranged
skill required. All other requirements are the same.

Swift Learner: There are now only 2 levels instead of 3.

Tough Hide: All resistances increase by 5% and not 7%.
Requirements: 7 or lower Endurance. Cannot also have Hide
of Scars Perk or Damage Resistance Perk.

Undead Glory: Grants an undead damage bonus of +1 instead
of the "to hit" bonus.

Modified Traits:
Good Natured: Adds +35 to Barter instead of +25.

Nasty Disposition: Adds +10 to fighting skills instead of +9.

Renaissance Man: Added both Ranged and Unarmed to the
list of Melee skills that get decreased. Also subtracts -3
from AC.

Small Frame: Minimum ST of 3 to select.

Studious Tinkerer: Player has to actually spend the skill
points in a skill to gain the extra points instead of
other means, such as magical item additions.

Modified Racial Traits:
Demonic Frenzy: Added +10 points to Evasion.

Forked Tongue: This WILL mark you as tainted.

Scaly Hide: Adds +5 to AC and NOT +10. Also subtracts -1
from CH.

Modified Spells:
Armor of Bones: Does not affect Piercing Damage
Resistance.

p.23 The Fifth Crusade. The manual's dates are correct in
the timeline on p.18 but are incorrect in the textual
accounting. The roots of the Necromancers do date back
to 1336; however, they did not become a major threat
to Europe until the late 14th century. The Fifth Crusade
began officially in 1418, just months after the first
direct attacks against European nations began. The Fifth
Crusade ended with Lord Amonsil's death in 1449.

Transferring Multiplayer Save Games
To transfer your multiplayer save games to another system
you need to copy the entire Save Games folder and
server.txt, both of which are located in the root of the
folder you installed Lionheart to. Both the Save Games
folder and server.txt must be present and in the root
folder of your installation, on the machine you are
transferring the game to, for your saved game to work
correctly. Note: If you have not had clients join your
multiplayer save game you may not have a server.txt
file - in this case you only need copy the Save Games
folder.

Troubleshooting Information
____________________________________________________________

If necessary, patches may become available for the product
that add functionality or correct bugs. Any updated
versions will be found at the official Lionheart website at
http://lionheart.blackisle.com.

Multiplayer Games:

Performance:
It is recommended that the most robust computer host the
game.

Pause when selecting 'Internet':
If you are not currently connected to the Internet when
you select this option, there will be a significant pause
when this is first selected as the game tries to connect.
Connect to the Internet before starting a MP game of
Lionheart.

Loading a game while a client is within a merchant's store
may keep a store window open for the client when the
game finishes loading. The store will be empty, and closing
the store window will not affect gameplay.

Known Problems and Solutions:

Voices looping rapidly:
While this is a very rare problem, if you hear character
voices looping on the first couple of words of their dialog,
you can address this problem by simply quicksaving (F9),
exiting, and then loading the game.

Interface windows rapidly closing and opening:
When you press the associated key, if your windows are
opening and closing too quickly, you may want to try
adjusting your Windows keyboard repeat rate found in your
Control Panel.

Quick slot items are not stored for clients in multiplayer
games. If a client returns to the main menu or exits
Lionheart completely, when the client rejoins a game the
quick slot spells/items are now empty.

Playing in Windows95:

Lionheart does not officially support Windows95. The game
has recieved significant testing on this OS and should
perform correctly under most circumstances.

Crash during character creation:
The only significant error occurs occasionally during
character creation the first time Lionheart is played
after the PC has been Restarted (Rebooted). Under these
circumstances, the game has been reported to crash when
loading the character model. If this occurs, restart
Lionheart and the problem should not occur again until you
restart your computer.
