Readme Conflict: Desert Storm(tm) PC Demo - Version 1.0SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM SPECIFICATION Windows 98, 2000, Me or XP Direct X 8.1 P3 450 MHz or faster CPU 128Mb RAM Direct X compatible sound card Direct X 8.1 compatible video card with 32Mb RAM 8 x CD-ROM drive 300Mb Hard Disk space Internet or LAN connection required for multiplayer. RECOMMENDED SPECIFICATION Windows 98, 2000, Me or XP Direct X 8.1 P3 1000 MHz CPU 128Mb RAM Direct X compatible sound card Nvidia GeForce 3 video card 8 x CD-ROM drive 300Mb Hard Disk space Internet or LAN connection required for multiplayer. VIDEO CARDS To run Conflict: Desert Storm at a reasonable frame rate with no graphical problems we recommend a recent video card with at least 32MB RAM that is compatible with Direct X 8.1 however we have found that some older cards do work. The following video cards have been tested and seem to work without fault on Conflict: Desert Storm. Always make sure you are using the latest drivers for your video card. ATI Radeon series ATI Rage series (some of the older lower spec cards may not work properly) TNT 2 series GeForce 2 series GeForce 3 series GeForce 4 series nForce series Hercules 3D Prophet II series Voodoo 4 series Voodoo 5 series Power VR Kyro series SOUND CARDS The sound in Conflict: Desert Storm should work on any Direct X 8.0 compatible sound card. The following sound cards have been tested and seem to work without fault on Conflict: Desert Storm. Always make sure you are using the latest drivers for your sound card. Creative Sound Blaster PCI Creative Sound Blaster Live HARD DISK SPACE The Conflict: Desert Storm demo takes up about 130MB of space on your hard disk, we recommend having at least 300MB of space remaining on your hard disk after installation to allow for Windows swap files etc. If you have to install Direct X 8.1 this will take up additional room. INSTALLATION To install the Conflict: Desert Storm demo simply double click on the self extracting exe file and follow the on screen instructions. SETTINGS When you run the Conflict: Desert Storm demo you will be able to choose various different settings which effect the performance and visual appearance of the game. When the launcher window appears click the SETTINGS button to open the settings options. 3D Device: If you have more than one 3D device in you PC this pull down list will allow you to select which device you would like to use with Conflict: Desert Storm. Resolution: This pull down list allows you to set the screen resolution, lower resolutions will run the game faster than higher resolutions. Colour Depth: This allows you to select either 16 or 32 bit colour. Several check boxes allow you to adjust the detail settings, turning these off will make Conflict: Desert Storm run faster. Texture Resolution: Choose between high and low - users with fast machines should choose high and users with minimum specification machines should choose low. When you are happy with your choice of settings click the OK button to return to the launcher, clicking OK on the launcher will start Conflict: Desert Storm. If the demo runs too slowly quit the game and try running the demo in a lower resolution with some of the details turned off. PLAYING THE DEMO Once the main menu has loaded you can start a game selecting single player - play demo - now select which difficulty setting you would like, easy, medium or hard. You can now choose to play either the British SAS or the US Delta Force, once you have done this the demo level will load, you will be shown a small real-time game movie and a mission briefing. You can review your mission objectives at any time during the game by pressing F1 - this will show the objective screen, the cursor keys allow you to select the various different objectives which are indicated on the map by a blue circle, the green triangle represents your game character. Conflict: Desert Storm has some advanced squad commands, in this demo you start with a single soldier but you get to rescue another which will allow you to control two soldiers. Play around with the various squad controls below to learn how to give orders to your companion soldier - after a little practice this will become a very easy yet powerful tool.
