Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos Patch 2 (version F14.6)

This upgrade is intended for all versions of Edge of Chaos before F14.6. It will upgrade F10.x European release versions, F12.0 European patched versions, and the F12.0 US release version.

Installing the Upgrade
To upgrade Edge of Chaos, run the upgrade installer (eoc_upgrade_f14.exe) and follow the on-screen prompts. The installer will locate your installed copy of Edge of Chaos and update it to version F14.6.

The installer will not allow you to upgrade in the following circumstances:

  • You do not have Edge of Chaos installed
  • You have already installed the upgrade
If you uninstall Edge of Chaos and re-install it later, you will need to re-install the upgrade as well.

Changes in version F14.6
General fixe

  • Remote missiles now have the correct blast radius of 2km.
  • Old trade mission objectives are now cleaned up.
  • Various fixes to specific trade missions.
  • Haven Station tour no longer activates after Act 1.
  • Fixed Sensor Disruptor mount point.
  • Beam weapons no longer 'explode' occasionally.
Mission fixes. WARNING: Contains plot spoilers!

The Prelude

  • Junkyard Challenge: Made AI ships weaker.
  • Junkyard Challenge: Fixed a problem with mission cleanup.
Act One: Hoffer's Wake

  • The Great Escape: Increased the weapon and LDA loadout for the tug.
  • Candy From a Baby: Clean up properly if the player doesn't go to the distress call.
  • The Heist: Relaxed position checks for the pod exchange.
  • The Trouble with Gunstars: Simplified the gunstar activation pattern.
  • Lucrecia's Horde: Fixed problem with the death of the hostages.
  • Lucrecia's Horde: Fixed collision problem with hostages.
Act Two: The Badland

  • Corporate Holdings: Fixed crash when travelling through the backdoor L-Point.
Act Three: Edge Of Chao

  • Into Chaos: Prevented the player destroying Jafs.
General improvement

  • Mission trades now list the client instead of the faction.
  • Mission trades are all at the top of the trades list.
  • User modifications can now be selected from the front-end interface. [details]
  • Multiplayer: The network code now uses a DirectPlay 8 transport layer. [details]
  • Multiplayer: The framework for network game types is more flexible, and we've added new games and maps. [details]


Changes in version F12.0
General fixe

  • Multiplayer: Fixed a problem with the server sometimes not recognising powerups.
  • Instant Action: The supply vessel now prevents the player from hitching a ride when it leaves the area.
  • Scoring inaccuracies with rockets have been fixed
  • Wingmen no longer duplicate their log messages when killing targets
  • Fixed crash when pausing on the Customise Loadout screen.
  • Opening the starmap in capsule space no longer causes a crash.

Act One: Hoffer's Wake

  • Lucrecia's Horde: Fixed problem with skipping cutscene.
Act Two: The Badland

  • High Noon: Fixed the long hang which could occasionally occur at the end of the mission.
  • The Exile: Mission now resets if you lose the Ambassador.
  • Blockade Runner: Fixed problem where two copies of this mission could run at once under unusual circumstances.
  • Grassy Knoll: Fixed problem where two copies of this mission could run at once under unusual circumstances.
  • Hide and Seek: You can't dock to the maintenance flitter until after you've been told to.
  • Dante's Inferno: Prevented the cargo yard from being recreated after it was destroyed.
Act Three: The Edge of Chao

  • Scavenger: The Maas fighters are now hostile earlier in the mission.
  • Scavenger: Added a missing objective to the list.
  • Raising the Ante: Wingmen no longer get lost in LDS.
  • Christmas L-Point: The L-Point now stays visible if you return to the base.
  • Into Chaos: The final email is no longer sent twice if you save and re-launch after it has been sent.
General improvement

  • When you click on an item in the Trades screen, the number you currently own is displayed in the information box.
  • Rapid Fire PBCs have been rebalanced. They draw more energy and travel slightly slower than they did previously.
  • Multiplayer: The multiplayer server has been made more responsive.
